Genoa Village Council is considering hiking quarry fees for out of town passes.

Parks Director Mike Thomas reported at a park advisory board meeting in September that revenue and attendance were both up this summer.

After more than a year of research by the police chief and off-and-on discussion by village council, residents of Woodville may apply for a permit to operate golf carts on most of the public roads in the village.

Council last week approved an ordinance allowing licensed and insured drivers to operate the carts once they’ve passed an inspection by the police department and are issued a permit.

Councilman Dave Gallaher asked council at a meeting on Sept. 27 to stop police from enforcing a law that prohibits residents from parking on the grass. Gallaher said police are spread too thin to be strictly enforcing the law.

Council agreed to send the matter to the Safety Committee for review.

Oregon city council on Monday approved the renewal of the city’s liability insurance coverage with The Ohio Plan. The cost to renew the plan represented a 6 percent increase over last year’s agreement.

The coverage is administered by The Hylant Group.

Many still remember the lighted stars families placed in windows, shining seven days a week, 24 hours a day, to honor family members who were fighting overseas during World War II.

The Padgett family, from Genoa, had six lighted stars. Five brothers were in combat duty and their sister was working administrative duties in Washington, D.C.
