BP-Husky donated $30,000 to the Oregon City Schools District for use in the areas of science and math. The school board approved the donation at a meeting on Feb. 15.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Zalar said that it has not yet been determined how the money will be spent.

“We’d like to discuss that with the district leadership team and entertain recommendations for that,” said Zalar. “My recommendation is that the elementary and middle schools could use that money to upgrade some of their equipment.”

Soon after Brian Shotwell and wrestling coach Antony Sharples met, they wrestled.

“He’s really experienced and he’s a really good coach. We went ahead and wrestled just to see who is better. I trust that,” Shotwell said.

You have to remember they are adults — Shotwell is 31-years-old and Sharples is a 2001 Oak Harbor High School graduate. Shotwell is opening MPWA Combat Sports in a 7,600 square foot former storefront inside the Woodville Mall next month.

Oregon City Council on Monday will consider authorizing Finance Director Kathy Hufford to make supplemental appropriations and interfund and intrafund transfers on an as-needed basis for fiscal year 2011.

Hufford at a committee of the whole meeting on Feb. 7 called the proposed ordinance a standard item.

“This includes all the transfers that were included in the 2011 budget, and also includes items that are reconciling the 2010 transfers from the budgeted amount to the actual cost that were incurred in 2010,” she said.

There are also supplemental appropriations for Information Services for Capital Expenditure items that were not included in the 2011 budget, an appropriation for the fire department for a grant from The Andersons for the purchase of ice and/or water rescue equipment, and an appropriation for additional costs for the Big Ditch project, she said.
