Mayor, trustees agree to discuss Walbridge Rd. radar
Walbridge Mayor Dan Wilczynski and Melanie Bowen, the chairperson of the Lake Township trustees, have agreed to discuss the village’s posting of a police radar car at the township fire station on Walbridge Road but haven’t set a time to do so.

In an article on copper thefts in Northwood that appeared in the Aug. 27 edition of The Press, it should have stated that copper prices have risen from $1.50 per pound in 2009 to nearly $4 per pound in 2012. The Press regrets the error.

 

A plan to construct a new power plant that will provide electricity for up to 500,000 homes in Oregon was announced on Wednesday.

North America Project Development, LLC officials stated at a press conference that the Oregon Clean Energy (OCE) project includes the construction of a 800 megawatts (MW) gas fired combined cycle plant, using local labor up to 1,100,000 worker hours, over a 26-30 month period. The plant would convert clean natural gas to electricity.

Townships and municipalities in Ottawa County are being asked to conduct inventories of their emergency equipment to determine if they’re sufficiently supplied to address their needs during natural disasters.

Fred Petersen, director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency, said the communities were asked to review their emergency systems such as sirens, generators, communications, and related equipment as part of the county’s mitigation plan for natural disasters, which must be updated every five years, according to regulations included in the Federal Emergency Management Agency Mitigation Act.

The results of the most recent testing of the Sandusky Bay and Sandusky River for the presence of silver carp environmental DNA indicate 20 of 150 samples are positive, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has announced.

The ODNR, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers collected the samples from the bay and river on July 30 and 31 as part of an extensive effort earlier this summer to collect data on Asian carp in Sandusky and Maumee bays in western Lake Erie.
