Members of a committee formed last year to review the structure of Lucas County government and is advocating the election of a single, unifying leader for the county, appeared before Oregon City Council last month to present its recommendations.

The committee supports a political structure that would contribute to reversing the economic decline of the region by facilitating concerted, collaborative efforts to reduce costs, eliminate duplication, and encourage regional cooperation. The group made a series of recommendations last May based on its study.

State Representatives Dennis Murray and Randy Gardner will host a subcommittee field hearing of the Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee Dec. 9 to discuss the condition of Lake Erie.

The hearing, which will be open to the public, will include testimony of state officials and environmental experts. It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lake Erie Islands Regional Welcome Center, 770 S. E. Catawba Road, Port Clinton.

Genoa school officials are hoping to overcome what they see as confusing ballot language when they push for passage of a replacement levy in March.

The district’s school board has approved resolutions needed to place a 1.6-mill, five-year replacement levy on the ballot that would – with voter approval – continue to fund permanent improvements such as new equipment, building repairs, and other similar expenses.

Oregon City Council last Monday unanimously approved a Special Use Exception (SUE) in a C-2 Commercial District at 2200 Woodville Road for the storage of car dealership vehicles.

The Oregon Planning Commission on Oct. 18 recommended approval, with some specifications: vehicles must be functional by state law and 100 percent roadworthy; and an all landscaping buffer yard that pertains to parking lots would apply to the storage lot.
