West end travelers who head to the Port Clinton area could experience delays when an upgrade takes place on a major thoroughfare into the city next year.

About a month ago, Ottawa County Commissioners set official plans in motion to begin work on the  Fremont Road Safety and Improvement Project, according to the commissioners’ records. The county has jurisdiction over the stretch of road that runs from the Ohio 53/Ohio 2 interchange by the BP Station in Bay Township to the Port Clinton City Limits, located near Rich’s Drive-Thru on Fremont Road.

While we take time to celebrate American labor this Labor Day, Press reporters look at the difficulties of buying American-made products. This is best exemplified by the fact that the top two car models with the highest percentage of American-made parts are the Toyota Matrix and the Toyota Avalon, according to the American Automobile Labeling Act.

It has become a global marketplace and while consumers our reporters interviewed prefer to buy American, they weigh that desire against price and availability.

The Oregon school board on Tuesday approved an agreement with InfoSnap to provide online student registration to parents.

Currently, parents register at the schools.

“It’s hectic,” said Board President P.J. Kapfhammer. “It takes each school days to process and try and get it done. It’s a joke, really. We spend thousands of dollars on paper and postage and processing. It’s almost impossible to track costs because it’s so diversified. This will have a streamline effect and will save the district money.”

With the price of gasoline creeping up recently, more prospective buyers perusing the inventories of area car dealerships appear to be more interested in the gas mileage of most models than where the vehicles and their components are made.
