If you ask Teri Hansen, she can tell you that Terry A. McKibben can do about anything. That’s why she nominated McKibben for induction into Eastwood’s Eagle Way Hall of Fame.

And, that’s why the hall of fame committee accepted her nomination and will induct McKibben.

What all has McKibben done? He’s a scout leader, tree farmer, builder, successful athlete, coach, teacher, staff leader, businessman, plus Hansen says he is funny and has countless personal qualities.

“In Terry's spare time, which isn't very much, you may find him doing stained glass work, playing cards, woodworking, and traveling with his wife,” wrote Hansen in her nomination submission.

Northwood has raised the speed limit on a segment of Wales Road, from Woodville Road to East Broadway, to 45 mph from 35 mph.

Police Chief Thomas Cairl said the speed changed this month due to the realignment of Wales Road, which was part of the $12 million Wales Road grade separation project that included the construction of two overpasses on Wales that was completed in 2014.

“The speed limit has always been 35 mph on Wales Road, from Woodville Road to East Broadway,” said Cairl. “That’s because there used to be homes on that segment of Wales when it was straight. Then when they redesigned that road with curves, there were no more homes on it. The only way you can access it, basically, is from intersections.”

Economic development, a renewal grant to promote the business district, infrastructure projects, and a lower crime rate were among the highlights of Northwood Mayor Ed Schimmel’s State of the City.

“As we move forward, my message for 2017 is one of optimism. But this optimism cannot take shape without hard work ahead,” said Schimmel.

The city started the year with a positive general fund carryover, a 20 percent increase in income tax collections, and a 2 percent decrease in general expenses, according to Schimmel. The city also approved a balanced budget, and projected general fund revenue to be even healthier “due to the seeds we continue to plant on the economic development front, coupled with our devotion towards a lean government,” said Schimmel.

Oregon City Council on Monday approved a new pay scale for the office of mayor and members of council.

The raise does not take effect until the next election for mayor and members of council.

The mayor, whose current annual salary is $23,000, will see a raise to $32,500 on December 1, when the mayor is sworn in.

All seven seats on council used to be up for re-election every two years. That changed in 2012, when voters agreed to change the City Charter and make them four year, staggered terms. Three council seats will be up this November. After the election, the three will receive $10,000 annually, up from $9,000, with the president of council getting $11,000 from $10,000. All seven members of council following the election of 2019 will have their annual pay increased to $12,000, with the council president getting $13,000.

Five major developers over the past 15 years have promised the East Side a bustling Marina District on the Maumee River. None have delivered.

“A lot of promises have been made on that property. None of them made by us,” Scott Carpenter, director of public relations for the Metroparks Toledo, recently told members of the East Toledo Club at its monthly luncheon. “We’ll follow through.”
