Oregon City Council recently approved a Community Reinvestment Area Agreement with Alpont LLC that will provide tax abatement for the construction of a new chemical manufacturing facility at 4122 Corduroy Road.

The agreement provides the company with 100 percent tax exemption for a period of 15 years.

Alpont plans to hire 40 full-time permanent employees to work at the plant, with the hiring process expected to start this spring. The new employees will add $2,356,000 to the annual payroll.

The Benton-Carroll-Salem school board is considering two options for upgrading the entrance to the high school building to improve security.

A decision will be made early next year, Guy Parmigian, superintendent, said.

“We understand that security of students involves more than locked doors and cameras. We are sensitive and responsive to the social and emotional needs of all of our students and take all threats and bullying issues very seriously,” he said.

Scott Seeliger has been appointed Director of Philanthropy at the Schedel Foundation in Elmore.

"This has been a personal of goal of mine for a long, long time, to add an individual to our team who is 100 percent dedicated to fundraising and increasing awareness and outreach in the community," said foundation board president Jim Shindler.

He said Seeliger will be concentrating on increasing memberships, donations, corporate support and funding for special projects.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Garand-Springfield-Military Master Instructor Courses will be held at Camp Perry on Jan. 27-29, 2017 and again on July 14, 2017 during the national matches.

Currently, there are 485 certified instructors across the nation, but more are always encouraged to join the effort of spreading marksmanship technique and safety.

The CMP Master Instructor certification program teaches individuals how to instruct new marksmen in range procedures, vintage military rifle operation, equipment use, firing techniques, shooting positions, safety and match procedures for the popular CMP Garand, Springfield and Military (vintage and modern) rifle courses of fire. These instructors will be trained to run Rimfire Sporter rifle clinics and matches as well.
