 The Woodmore school board Tuesday approved the purchase of Chromebooks and iPads as part of the district’s 1:1 Technology Initiative to provide students greater access to Internet resources.  The board also approved a five-year contract with the Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association that will double the current bandwidth at the high school, said Mike Byrd, technology director.

 Pending approval from the state, Standard Wellness Co. will be able to start construction of a facility to grow medical marijuana in the Village of Gibsonburg.

 Mayor Steve Fought said village council has approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of property at Clearview Industrial Park to the company where the marijuana will be cultivated.  A public meeting to answer questions from residents was held Wednesday at Gibsonburg High School.

 Lake Township officials have had to wade through a lengthy process when dealing with severely blighted structures in the township but have begun to see results.

 Last week, a dilapidated house at 29577 E. Broadway was razed - nearly a year after township trustees approved a resolution requesting the Wood County building inspector and health department inspect the property as well as two adjacent houses at 30854 and 30848 Drouillard Rd.   A house and out buildings at 28562 Lemoyne Rd. were later added to the inspection list.

There was a farmers market and the fire department held an open house to display new equipment; there were raffles and food vendors, crafters and music.

 For the merchants in Elmore, the first Explore Elmore Day was a success.

 Organizers met last Wednesday to assess the event that was held May 6 to showcase the village’s historic downtown business district on Rice Street.

 In the space of a few hours, the Benton-Carroll-Salem school board and administration learned the district’s future tax revenues could be drastically lower from what they’d been in the past.

 In early March, board members, superintendent Guy Parmigian and treasurer Cajon Keeton met with state lawmakers who shared news of Gov. John Kasich’s budget proposal that included a likely loss of about $652,000 in funding for the district.  Just hours later, the school officials learned that FirstEnergy would be submitting a plan to the Ohio Department of Taxation to devalue its electric generation equipment after the company reported a 2016 full-year GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) loss of $6.2 billion.
