ProMedica Transportation Network (PTN), a member of ProMedica Health System (PHS), unveiled new equipment that will be used to enhance its education program for firefighters and emergency medical service (EMS) crews in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
The new EMS Community Sim Lab is a state-of-the-art mobile training center containing equipment that will be used to demonstrate various medical emergency scenarios.
“Demand for training programs has sky-rocketed from firefighters and others who work in emergency medical services,” says Mark Olieman, PTN education coordinator. “Many small fire departments don’t have the funds or time to travel for the necessary training to maintain their credentials. Our programs and this great new simulation lab will make it possible.”
The equipment was purchased with a $15,000 grant from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and The Delp Company, as well as support from the donors Vicki Cobb-Boes, PHS; Brennan Industrial Truck Company; Todd Brookens, DO, PHS; and David Lindstrom, MD, PHS.
The Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program designed to provide necessary equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to over 1,100 departments totaling more than $21.6 million. Select independent insurance agencies/brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products are able to direct these grants to support fire stations in their communities.
