Owens Community College will celebrate the culmination of an academic year’s worth of fine and performing arts education at the fourth annual “Melodic Expressions” Spring Concert Series, April 20-25 in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. The concerts will showcase the accomplishments of Owens students and faculty in a number of performances ranging from vocal to instrumental.
The schedule includes: • April 20: Owens String and Jazz Ensemble, 2 p.m., Center for Fine and Performing Arts Rotunda. An array of string and jazz instruments, including the violin, viola, cello and saxophone, and many classical and jazz music favorites will be featured by the Owens string and jazz ensemble classes during the live performance. Owens Guitar Ensemble, 7 p.m., Mainstage Theatre. Students from the Owens guitar class will perform some of their favorite songs in various genres. • April 21: Owens Voices Concert, 2 p.m. Mainstage Theatre. Attendees are in for an afternoon of masterful sounds courtesy of Owens vocal students of adjunctfFaculty member Jodi Jobuck. The concert will feature a wide range of harmonious vocals. • April 22: Owens Student Music Justice League Performance, 12:30 p.m., Center for Fine and Performing Arts Rotunda. Students within the Owens Student Music Justice League will showcase their many musical talents in a variety of individual and group performances, ranging from original works to classical and modern compositions, among others. 9th Annual Harp Performance by Owens Adjunct faculty member Denise Grupp-Verbon and Friends, 6 p.m., Center for Fine and Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Grupp-Verbon will perform an assortment of selections and styles as part of her annual harp performance. Several guest artists will also showcase their musical talents during the event. Owens Student Music Justice League Performance, 8 p.m., Center for Fine and Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre. Students within the Owens Student Music Justice League will showcase their many musical talents in a variety of individual and group performances, ranging from original works to classical and modern compositions, among others. • April 23: Owens Songwriting Performance and Percussion Ensemble, 2 p.m., Center for Fine and Performing Arts Rotunda. Students will showcase their creative writing and percussion skills in a variety of performances. Owens Voices Concert, 7 p.m., Mainstage Theatre. Vocal students of adjunct faculty member Jodi Jobuck will perform a wide range of harmonious vocals. • April 24: “Can You Do This” - Owens Dance Concert, 8 p.m., Mainstage Theatre. Owens student and faculty performers will showcase their dancing talents to accompanied music in various genres, including jazz, hip-hop, ballet and modern dance, among others. • April 25: Owens Spring Choir Concert - “The Requiem,” 7:30 p.m., Mainstage Theatre. Student performers will showcase their vocal talents as they present Gabriel Fauré’s “The Requiem,” a traditional solemn Catholic liturgy. All the performances are open to the public.
