With the end of the season approaching, the locally-based Cheer Starz Extreme cheerleading teams traveled to Columbus this past weekend hoping to bring home a national title, and they exceeded.

They attended the Arnold Classic, a National Cheerleading Competition hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Columbus that attracts 1,000 plus cheerleaders. Cheer Starz coaches say both the youth and senior teams had “amazing performances,” and as a result not just one, but both teams brought home national championship titles.

Coaches say the youth team, in addition to becoming national champions, “also stole the competition,” bringing home the Grand Champion Award. The Cheer Starz Extreme teams close a successful season with the U.S. Finals competition April 24-26.  Coaches say it is here that they will compete against the top teams across the United States to fight for the number one rank.

Over the years, Cheer Starz Extreme had already established itself as one of the top teams in the nation. In addition to winning the 2009 U.S. Spirit National titles, other titles Cheer Starz Extreme teams have earned include 2009 Ohio State Champions and Grand Champions,  2008 Ohio State Champions and Americheer National Champions, 2006 Americheer National Champions and Ohio Coach of the Year, 2005 Spirit Sports National Champions, and 2004 JamFest National Champions.

Cheer Starz Extreme is located out of Next Level Gymnastics. Their coaching staff consists of Owner/Head Coach Brooke Whitner, Tumbling instructors Dustin Costanzo and Nick Distel, and Assistant coaches Stacey Greear, Kayla Mazur and Tracy Rollins.
