Jennifer has been involved in all three incarnations. In 1988, at age six, she was hammering and stapling kitty condo units when the business was launched in the former Dunn car dealership in Curtice. Her father, Michael Stewart, moved the business to a Spartan Warehouse located at Lallendorf and Corduroy Roads in Oregon. He recently retired and closed the site after 11 years at that location.

Jennifer says the new store offers “anything for the cat to adore” including furniture, scratching trees and posts, and beds, etc. The firm also makes custom furniture and made the national news during Bill Clinton’s presidency when it made a replica of the White House for Socks, the Clinton’s cat.
 

At the clubs
Christine Brennan, an award winning USA Today sports columnist, best selling author and commentator for ABC News, ESPN, NPR and Fox Sports Radio, will speak to the members of the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce on Monday, November 7, 11:30 a.m. at The Toledo Club, 235 14th Street in downtown Toledo.

Brennan, a Toledo native, has covered 14 consecutive Olympic Games, summer and winter. She is the nation's most widely read female sports columnist. She was the first woman to cover the Washington Redskins as a staff writer at The Washington Post (1985). 

Brennan, a 1976 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School, is a member of the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism Hall of Achievement.

Open house
Guiding Hands Home Health Services will hold an open house and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, November 16 for its new facility at 133 W. Water St. in downtown Oak Harbor.

Guiding Hands, established in 2005, offers home health care services in Ottawa County and the surrounding area. The ribbon cutting will be held at 11:30 am with an open house and light refreshments to follow starting at 1:00 pm.

The right thing
Glass City Federal Credit Union has added a new spin to its fourth annual food drive. It’s Michigan versus Ohio State. Boxes at the five credit union locations, including the one on East Broadway in East Toledo, will be decorated in either scarlet and gray or blue and gold. Put your items in the box representing the team you support. The team with the most food by weight wins.

The drive ends November 18. Five area food pantries will receive the donated items including the East Toledo Family Center.

Opportunity knocks
Ron Rightnowar has joined GenoaBank as assistant vice president, commercial loan officer.

Rightnowar will be based in the bank’s Oregon branch.

Rightnowar, an Oregon resident, attended Eastern Michigan University, majoring in Industrial Technology with a minor in Business Administration.  He is a former NW Ohio area Director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a former major league pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers.

He was the head baseball coach at Toledo Christian School and will assume those duties at Genoa High School in the spring of 2012.

The bottom line
GenoaBank recently announced  a quarterly dividend of 14 cents a share to all shareholders of record as of October 21, 2011. The board of directors also announced net income year to date totaled $1,006,000 with assets ending at $251 million dollars.
