As youths prepare to enter middle or high school, they will confront many new experiences, including peer pressure and exposure to alcohol and drugs.
One of the most important tasks facing parents of teens is preparing them for decisions that lie ahead. To help parents steer their children toward healthy choices and away from problem behaviors, the Wood County Educational Service Center is offering a free five-part series entitled, “Guiding Good Choices.”
Geared toward parents of children ages 7 to 14, the series suggests ways parents can set clear guidelines and establish healthy standards. Parents learn how to help their teens say “no” to risky behaviors and discover ways to manage conflicts and express anger constructively, thereby strengthening family bonds. Participants also receive summaries of in-depth information and a family resource guide.
The session begins Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Kenwood Elementary School in Bowling Green. Future sessions will be offered in various locations throughout Wood County.
Parents or caregivers can get more information by calling Greg Bonnell at the center at 419-354-9010, ext. 228 or going on-line at
