The new ProMedica Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital being constructed at 2901 N. Reynolds Rd., will open in less than three months.
The hospital, a division of ProMedica Toledo Hospital, will be the region’s first and only freestanding hospital to exclusively offer orthopaedic and spine services, including knee, hip and shoulder joint replacement, along with foot, ankle, hand and spine surgeries.
It is located on the Wildwood Medical Center campus, which includes several physician offices, outpatient surgery center and Wildwood Athletic Club.
The nearly $33 million construction project, which started in April 2010, is being managed by Lathrop.
The one-story hospital will span 70,000-square-feet and will include six operating rooms, 36 private patient rooms, inpatient physical therapy and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services, including CT, MRI and general X-ray. A second-story mezzanine will provide convenient access to the other medical office buildings on campus.
The facility will also be ProMedica’s first all-digital hospital, complete with electronic health records technology. The building design also incorporates environmentally friendly lighting, heating, ventilation and cooling systems.
“A great deal of thought went into the architectural design and construction of this new facility to ensure that it would meet patients’ special needs and offer the most conducive environment for them to get well,” said Holly Bristol, president of the new hospital. “For example, the hospital is one story for ease of patient and family flow.”
In addition to state-of-the art technology, patients will be cared for by a team of medical experts, including physicians who specialize in hospital medicine, as well as nurse navigators who will facilitate patient education workshops on topics such as pain management.
There will be multiple options for physical therapy, at the bedside or in group settings, based on their individual needs. Patients will have also access to a gift shop with a variety of orthopaedic-specific home convenience items, a full-service kitchen that will provide room service and a public café.
