Fun Spot Arena in Oregon, in conjunction with the Roller Skating Association International, is participating in the fourth annual Skate A Million Miles event, intended to promote a healthy lifestyle through roller-skating.
Fun Spot and skating centers throughout the country are asking skaters to register and then skate at least five times between now and June 30. Ten thousand skaters skating at least five times throughout the event will help the RSA achieve the goal of one million miles.
“Roller-skating is a unique way to achieve health benefits while having fun,” said Jodi Ziegler, office manager and events coordinator at the Fun Spot. “The average person can burn 350 calories by skating at a rate of six miles per hour. This number increases to 600 calories if the person averages 10 miles within the hour.
Skate A Million Miles encourages participants to track their roller skating and other activities on the President’s Challenge Program website as they work toward earning a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

The Fun Spot, located at 525 Earlwood Ave., has been family-owned and operated for more than 50 years. “We are proud to be participating in the `Skate A Million Miles’ program and welcome members of the community to join,” Ziegler said. “We have added more days and times in order to accommodate those who choose to participate.”
