So, you’d like to get fit and healthy in 2011, but you say you’re just too busy? There’s just no convenient time to fit in a workout?
Better think of another excuse.
At Snap Fitness, located at 3555 Navarre Ave., Oregon, members can work out on state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, free weights and more 24-7.
Like other gyms, Snap Fitness is staffed with fitness professionals during business hours. The gym is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The twist? It also offers an electronic key card system that allows secure access to members any time of the day or night.
“It’s a concept our members really seem to appreciate – to get in whenever they can, get out and get on with their lives,” said Alison Beach, manager.

The Minnesota-based franchise was founded in 2004 with the aim of offering patrons of all fitness levels fast, convenient and affordable workouts at a “neighborhood” gym setting – without long-term contracts or commitments.
Currently, there are more than 1,200 clubs worldwide.
At the Oregon location, members run the gamut from beginners to power lifters, Beach said, adding that beginners need not be intimidated. “The nice thing about the Snap model is everybody that joins gets two appointments with our personal trainer ¬– Noah Simonetti, who has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo in exercise physiology. The first is basically a body analysis consultation to gauge where you are, fitness-wise.
“After that, a fitness professional takes you around the club, explaining equipment and a suggested fitness routine, which is then documented as a guide for future visits,” Beach said.
Every Tuesday, the trainer conducts a clinic to answer members’ questions or concerns about their fitness plan, nutrition, etc.
Members are also encouraged to create their own personal webpage at mysnapfitness.com which includes nutrition, meal-planning, workout and other information, plus a networking portal, “My Community” – a resource for connecting with other members.
As an added tool for success, Snap Fitness recently launched easyFIT, a wellness program that includes a small, hip-worn monitor that helps users stay on track.
The monitor tracks the wearer’s daily activity and calorie burn. Starting with a personalized “prescription” based on height, weight, age and gender, the device displays activity in points, making it easy to set and track goals, comparing progress over time, and competing with others, Beach said.
EasyFIT also connects via computer to the member’s mysnapfitness.com page to help gauge progress and offer ongoing motivation to stay engaged through fitness challenges, reward points that earn discounts and other prizes and community support through online forums.
The new year is a great time to get started to get rid of any holiday weight gain and to get into shape for spring, Beach said. “Once you get into a routine, you have motivation to keep going through the spring and the summer months too.”
Through Feb. 15, new members can join Snap Fitness and access the easyFIT program, plus get two additional personal training sessions for a promotional rate of $79. Free trials are also available.
