Whether the loss of a loved one is recent or occurred some time ago, the holidays place additional demands on our time and emotions.

Says Hospice of Northwest Ohio Bereavement Counselor, Char Brock “It can be helpful for bereaved individuals to consider ahead of time what may be expected, both socially and emotionally, as well as consider their own expectations. It is okay to make alternative plans for the holidays, to celebrate in a different way, and to set limitations.”

Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s team of bereavement counselors suggests the following for those coping with holiday grief:

• Stay in touch with your feelings

•Plan ahead

•Simplify holiday traditions

•Alter your gift giving

•Open up

•Protect your emotional and physical well-being

•Look for an alternative plan for this year

•Look for support

•Rekindle the holiday spirit

Visit www.hospicenwo.org for a complete listing of support groups that we offer. The groups are always free and open to anyone in the community who is grieving, whether or not they have had a prior relationship with Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
