funds for bicycle helmets.

“The Trauma Program takes bicycle safety very seriously,” said Nicole Knight RN/BSN, Trauma Coordinator. “Wearing bike helmets prevent the risk of brain injury by 88 percent and the risk of injury to the face by 65 percent.”

Helmets were purchased and distributed to 150 children at the Starr Elementary Safety Town classes on June 16 and 24. On Saturday July 10, Stormin’ Norman’s Trading Post in the Great Eastern Shopping Center will hold a “Bike and Book Giveaway” to replace lost bicycles for middle school age children and younger due to the recent tornado.

MSCH Trauma Program has supplied Stormin’ Norman’s with bicycle helmets for all the bicycles to be given away.

“All children should be riding their bikes with helmets on,” Knight said. “It is a vital in injury prevention.’
