Each year, The Ability Center’s Ottawa County office provides a two-week leadership experience for Ottawa County youths living with disabilities.

Over the two-week period, the participants visit and receive training from a number of area civic, business and recreational organizations. The intent is to expose the participants to potential career opportunities, as well as help them understand how communities work.

This year, Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station became an instrumental partner in the summer program. The station’s North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NA-YGN) chapter hosted youths at their facility for a career exploration experience.

Beyond the hands-on opportunity provided, Davis-Besse NA-YGN and The FirstEnergy Foundation presented a $2,500 contribution to The Ability Center to provide additional support for the Youth Leadership Program in Ottawa County.

The presentation was held Aug. 29 at The Ability Center’s Sylvania offices.
