The Toledo Area Humane Society (TAHS) will continue its “$5 Friday” special adoption fee for kittens and cats through August.

The “$5 Friday” adoption special in June helped close to 270 cats and kittens find homes. Additionally, TAHS is introducing “$10 Tuesday” to help even more felines get adopted. “$10 Tuesday” begins Tuesday, July 10 and “$5 Friday” begins Friday, July 13. “$10 Tuesday” will also continue through August.

Each Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., all cats and kittens will have their adoption fees reduced to $10 each. And again on Fridays, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., cat and kitten adoption fees will be reduced to $5.  TAHS has every type of cat or kitten available - long-haired, short-haired, orange, black, gray, tabby, calico, or tiger-striped.

“We are still taking in over 100 cats and kittens each week and we have over 250 kittens currently in foster homes waiting until they are old enough or big enough to go up for adoption,” said Dr. Debbie Johnson, director of operations for TAHS.  “Since we have limited space available, the more animals we can find homes for, the more animals we can help. Because we’ve been able to help so many cats and kittens get adopted with adoption specials like ‘$5 Friday’, we’ve been able to help more animals overall. In order to continue helping more cats and kittens, we felt it was important to continue with ‘$5 Fridays’ and to introduce ‘$10 Tuesdays’ to encourage even more adoptions.”

As of the end of June, the number of cats TAHS has taken in has increased 51% since the same time last year.  This increase is partially due to more cats and kittens being surrendered by their owners; however, it is primarily due to an increase in the number of stray cats and kittens being brought to the humane society.  Likely due to the warmer weather this winter, TAHS began seeing an increase in the number of kittens earlier in the year and it has been a steady flow since.  “It seems like we get one litter adopted or into foster care and another one comes through our doors” said Dr. Johnson.

However, in conjunction with adoption specials such as “$5 Fridays”, the number of cat and kitten adoptions has increased by 75% year to date and the average length for how long cats and kittens are at the Humane Society has decreased by over a week.

All cats, kittens, dogs and puppies adopted from the Toledo Area Humane Society are spayed or neutered, get micro-chipped, receive their age-appropriate vaccines and get a physical exam by on-staff veterinarians.  Because fees are greatly reduced, donations are appreciated, though not required.

The TAHS is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm. For more information, call 419-891-0705.
