Playground equipment bound for Genoa

A new pirate ship playground is expected in Genoa around mid-July.

“It’s been ordered and should be here sometime in the middle of July,” said Village Administrator Kevin Gladden. “It’s a little later than I had hoped, but we’ll have it.”

The structure, created by the Akron-firm Bright Idea Shops, cost about $7,000.

The village will pay about half the cost, with the remainder covered by a grant received from the  Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca Solid Waste District.

The ship, which is similar to those currently at parks in  Allen Township and Clay Center, will arrive on a truck fully constructed and ready to be placed in Veterans Park by the shelter house.

According to the Bright Idea Shops website, the pirate ship is made up of UV stabilized plastic, making it free from splinters or paint chips.

The green-based company states that that it uses the equivalent eight of 11,780 gallon milk jugs (or 1,778 pounds) to construct the ship.
