The Ohio Department of Transportation is completing an upgrade of the Do Not Enter, Wrong Way and One Way signs to 2012 standards.
Drivers may have noticed the upgrades on existing signs along freeway and expressway interchanges.
The new standards will improve the nighttime visibility of the signs.
By the end of 2012, ODOT intends to upgrade signage along freeway and expressway interchanges to enhance the visibility of signage for wrong way drivers.
On all interchange ramps in Lucas, Henry, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wood counties, ODOT will install supplemental wrong way signs on both of the existing wrong way installations on the non-cloverleaf exit ramps. The supplemental wrong way signs will be installed at a three foot mounting height.
According to ODOT, research indicates that a lower mounting height makes the signs more visible at night because lower signs are in the path of a car's headlights and impaired and older drivers, who tend to drive with their eyes low, look for visual cues from the pavement area.
