A pre-trial hearing for Joseph T. Bergman, Jr., who is charged with sexual battery, is scheduled for July 10 at 4 p.m. in Wood County Common Pleas Court.

Bergman, 28, was indicted May 16 by a Wood County grand jury on one count of sexual battery, a third degree felony, for an alleged incident with a Genoa High School female student in March.

The incident allegedly occurred in Perrysburg.

Dennis Mock, Genoa school superintendent, said the school district had been cooperating with Perrysburg police.

"We have not had any contact with them since they told us they were going to issue the warrant," he said.

Perrysburg law enforcement officials came to the school in early May, requesting to interview several students in connection with the case, the superintendent said. No teachers were interviewed.

Bergman was an assistant wrestling coach at Genoa High School.

"He had a one-year contract with us as an assistant coach and that has expired," Mock said.

Bergman was extradited from the Fort Leonard Wood Army Base in Missouri, where he serves as a reservist in the 544th Engineer Battalion, to the Wood County jail.

He was released on his own recognizance last Tuesday after a bond hearing before Judge Robert Pollex.

Court records list his home on N. Manor Drive in Genoa.
