Genoa High School’s gymnasium is about to get a makeover.

Contractor bids for the renovation will be received by June 1 and the work is expected to be finished over the summer, said Superintendent Dennis Mock.

“This is something paid for by the bond issue. The bond issue paid for the new Genoa Elementary but people forget we had five other projects with it, including the new gym,”

Mock said.

The other renovations included revamping the high school science labs and auditorium.

The science labs hadn’t been changed since the high school was built in 1963, according to Mock, who said the money for the project comes from the 1.9-mill 28-year bond issue passed by voters in 2008.  The bulk of the funds went toward the construction of the new Genoa Elementary School. It opened its doors to students for the 2011-12 school year.

The auditorium work was done in two phases, including new seating and floors as well as an updated sound system.
