Walbridge Village Council has approved the hiring of its police chief to fill the vacant administrator’s position.
Council unanimously approved a motion Wednesday to appoint Ken Frost to the position on a temporary basis.
Frost’s name wasn’t on a list of applicants for the part-time post, which has been vacant since Ken Gilsdorf resigned in early February, but Ed Kolanko, council president, told council he was recommending Chief Frost for the additional responsibilities after discussing the matter with Mayor Dan Wilczynski, who was absent from the meeting.
A review will be conducted after three months, he said.
Frost was hired as police chief in February 2011 at a salary of $47,000.
Prior to the hiring of Gilsdorf in December of last year, the administrator’s position was vacant since the summer of 2010 when Steve Smith was let go and it was a full-time position.
Mayor Wilczynski has since determined it should be a part-time position and council approved a salary of $14,400 for it when Gilsdorf was hired.
Frost won’t be the first area police chief to also handle administrative matters. Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer is also administrator for the township.
