Food recall data on health dept. website

The Ottawa County Health Department is reminding the public its website has up-to-date food recall lists: www.ottawahealth.org.

The listing, which was added to the health department website several years ago, is updated as staff receives information, said Ottawa County Health Commissioner, Nancy Osborn. Items are deleted from the list after 60 days.

Some of the newest items appearing include Uncle Ben’s Garden Vegetable Rice, Ocean Spray Dried Cranberries and Giant Eagle Canned Pumpkin.

The site identifies the product and the date of the recall and includes links where readers can find out more specific details such as the reason for the recall, where the product was sold, lot numbers and possible side effects. There are also numbers listed to call for additional information.

Woodmore policy altered
To increase safety for students arriving by bus or car at Woodmore High School, the administration is trying a new procedure for the week of Jan. 9-13.

In the morning, the buses will drop students off while parked along Elmore East Road.  Students are to enter the school through the doors leading into the middle school wing of the building (close to the cafeteria).

As they are now, high school students will report to the main lobby until the 7:30 a.m. bell, while middle school students report to the cafeteria.  In the afternoon, the buses will also be parked along Elmore East Road. Students can leave the school through the same doors in which they entered in the morning.

Under the new procedure, bus students won’t need to cross Elmore East Road. For parents who are dropping their child off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon, the administration requests they use the main lobby doors.

Students who drive to school will follow the same procedures as they are currently.  Walkers who need to cross Elmore East Road are asked to cross at the traffic light.

Ralph Myers, principal, said the procedures will be reviewed after Jan. 13 before a decision is made if they will continue.

Parents who have questions should contact the school at 419 862-2721.
