Two named to county park board
Two people have been appointed to the Wood County Park District Board of Commissioners,
Wood County Probate Judge David Woessner appointed Mary McCormick-Krueger, Perrysburg, and John Calderonello, Bowling Green, to three-year terms on the board from a field of six applicants.
Their terms begin Jan. 1, 2012.
McCormick-Krueger has been a member of the board since January 2010 when the board was expanded from three to five members.
She has also served as chairman of the Perrysburg Black Swamp Conservancy.
Since 2003, Calderonello has worked with the design committee of Simpson Garden Park in Bowling Green and has been a member of the Bowling Green Tree Commission.
In November, voters rejected a request for bond millage that would have also been used to construct a new auditorium at the high school in Elmore.
Board members are hoping a bond issue to help fund a new elementary school only will attract more voters. They estimate it will take a little more than one mill to build an auditorium.
If passed, a bond issue will leverage about $7 million in funding from the Ohio School Facilities Commission for a new school.
In his weekly newsletter, John Fernbaugh, district superintendent, said many residents appeared to vote against the bond issue because the project included the proposed auditorium.
Still, he said a new auditorium is “a must” for the district and could be placed again before voters in 2014.
