The Lake Township Ageless Wonders will get together at the Lake Township Hall for a potluck lunch Oct. 13.
The noon gathering will be a “homecoming” of sorts for the group, comprised of seniors from the Lake Township and surrounding area.
“We were forced to disband when the township administration building was destroyed by a tornado in June 2010,” said “Ageless Wonder” Marcie Hundsrucker. “We held our meetings in the building and kept all of our supplies there.”
Though they met for a short time in the cafeteria at St. Jerome in Walbridge, the seniors – now more of a social club – decided they would meet for dinner at local restaurants every month.
“Ron Hanely (Lake Township Parks Director) invited our group to come and use the hall on Oct. 13 because he knew we had met there before the tornado hit,” Hundsrucker said. “He said that he and (Trustee) Richard Welling were talking and they wanted to invite us to come back – I thought that was really nice.”
“I’ve seen the new facility, but a lot of people haven’t seen it – it’s so beautiful,” she added.
Hundsrucker said she hopes to see a number of old friends along with new faces at the potluck.
“I expect 25 to 30 people to show up,” Hundsrucker said, adding that it’s uncertain if the group will officially re-organize.
“We’d need to have officers. It would be nice if we had some new faces and ideas,” she said. “It was a nice organization – we had guest speakers, potlucks, holiday parties, etc. It’s just too much for the same people to always step up over and over.”
Membership in the group is open to seniors throughout the area. To join or for more information, call Hundsrucker at 419-836-3811.
