Northwood police are looking for Xzavier Matthews in
connection with a burglury of a Curtice Rd. residence.
His last known address was 711 Pearl St., Toledo.

At approximately 11:13 a.m. on Aug. 30, the son of the resident at the Curtice Road address found a white mini-van in the driveway, Northwood Det. Tina Sigler told The Press on Wednesday.

As he entered the house, the son saw that it had been ransacked and that the suspect had allegedly started a fire in the residence, according to Sigler. The son left the house and went to call for help from a cell phone in his vehicle when Matthews allegedly pulled a black semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at the son and said “it’s not personal,” before fleeing in the mini-van, according to Sigler.

“It’s aggravated burglary because he brandished a gun to the victim. It’s also aggravated arson because he tried to set the house on fire and the victim was present,” said Sigler.

The victim was not injured, she said.

Stolen from the residence were a TV, a laptop computer, a couple of shotguns, ammunition, and jewelry, said Sigler.

Police believe entry was gained through an unlocked door, said Sigler.

The van, which was apparently a rental, was recovered on Mason Street, near Main Street, in East Toledo.

Police were processing the van on Wednesday.

The dispatcher told both Northwood and Toledo police to be on the lookout for the white minivan, said Sigler.

“Toledo was looking all over, trying to help us find this white minivan, but you know how many white minivans there are out there,” said Sigler. “So the Toledo police saw the white minivan at Mason and Main streets. When they got there, they didn’t know who was in the van because they didn’t have a description of the suspect. Eventually, we got the physical description to them. They saw him walking down the street.” That man, police allege, was Matthews.

The stolen items were recovered inside the van, according to Sigler.

Matthews has been arrested in the past for burglary and receiving stolen property, according to police.

Matthews, who is African-American, has his hair styled in dreadlocks and has gold teeth, according to police. The public is being asked to contact the Northwood Police Department at 419-691-5053 or Wood County Crimestoppers at 419-352-0077 if they have information as to his whereabouts.
