Grant funds for sewer hook-ups available About $20,000 in grant funding is still available for qualifying home-owners in the Stony Ridge, Lemoyne, and Troy Township areas where sanitary sewer lines were recently installed by the Northwestern Water and Sewer District.
The grant money is being used to help pay for the construction of lateral lines between homes and the sewer lines.
Jerry Greiner, the district’s executive director, said the funds are part of a $600,000 Community Development Block Grant that totaled about $4 million. About $100,000 was set aside to assist residents of owner-occupied homes that meeting CDBG low to moderate income requirements he said, adding the remaining $20,000 will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.
Grants have averaged between $800 and $3,000, depending on the length of the connection soil type, and the location of underground utilities.
The project was mandated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, which had determined many of the septic systems in the area were failing.
More than 300 homes and businesses were affected by the project, according to Greiner.
