Board needs emergency session for levy request

After convening an emergency meeting Wednesday, the Lake school board re-approved the resolution needed for placing a 4.75-mill, 5-year levy on the November ballot.

The board had met Tuesday and adopted the same resolution, said treasurer Jeff Carpenter, but the required number of board members wasn’t present as some were out of town or had job responsibilities.

Lake voters earlier this month rejected a continuing levy request for the same millage amount. The school board and administration said some voters objected to the levy being continuous.

The number of contested and uncontested races for office in November is about even in area Wood County villages and townships, according to filings with the county board of elections.

In Walbridge, incumbent mayor Dan Wilczynski is being challenged by Ronald Liwo, Sr., a former member of village council, and Stewart Murphy.

Four persons are running for two open village council seats: incumbents Maureen Jacobsen and Kathy Heldt, and Nathan Eikost and Fred Sloyer.

Vicki Schwamberger, the incumbent fiscal officer in Lake Township, is unopposed in her bid for re-election but Melanie Bowen, an incumbent township trustee, is being challenged by Jeffrey Pettit for one open seat on the three-member board of trustees.

In Lake Township, incumbent Vicki Schwamberger is unopposed in her bid to return as fiscal officer but Melanie Bowen, an incumbent on the board of trustees, is being challenged by Jeff Pettit for one seat on the board.

Millbury Mayor Michael Timmons is unopposed in his bid for re-election and incumbents, Dennis Traver and Clarence Wilburn, are unopposed for two seats on village council.

In the Village of Pemberville, Gordon Bowman and Eric Campbell are vying for the mayor’s seat and four persons, Christian King, Randy Rothenbuhler Eileen Schuerman and Robert Vespi, are seeking two seats on village council.

Charles Schulte and Dean Krukemyer are unopposed for two seats on the village board of public affairs.

Belinda Brooks is the only candidate for the mayor’s office in the Village of Luckey and Chad Arntson and Rick  Heilman are unopposed for two seats on council.

In Troy Township, Linda Biniker is unopposed for the fiscal officer’s office but four persons are vying for one seat on the board of trustees: Cory Clay, Earl Hagg, Stephen Levorchick, and Jeff Limes.

There are no contested races in Freedom Township where David Gerwin is running for fiscal officer and Kent Schuerman is seeking one open seat on the board of trustees.

In Webster Township, Carolyn Spoerl is unopposed in the fiscal officer’s race and Isaac Bailey and Mark Bushman are seeking one open seat on the board of trustees.

Only two candidates, Theodore Bowlus and Robert Kuhlman, are seeking two open seats on the Eastwood school board.

The race for two seats on the Lake school board also is uncontested with two candidates: John Ervin and Scott Swartz.

Voters in Freedom Township will decide a 3-mill, 3-year replacement levy for maintaining the fire department.
