TGIM?

True, not too many of us actually look forward to Mondays – circle Monday, July 18 on your calendar because that’s the day the 2011 Ottawa County Fair kicks off.

The 47th annual fair will run from July 18 through Sunday, July 24 at the county fairgrounds, located about 2.5 miles east of Oak Harbor on S.R. 163.

Billed as Ottawa County’s “Action Fair,” this year’s fair will feature such grandstand events as:

• Harness Horse Racing July 18 and 19;

• IPRA Professional Rodeo presented by Wagon Wheel Rodeo Co. July 20;

• Demolition Derby July 21;

• Faircross Motorcycle Racing July 22;

• Antique & Farm Stock Tractor Pulls July 23;

• Tony Petersen’s Hell Drivers Thrill Show July 23;

• Draft Horse/Pony Hitch Show July 22 and 24.

Fairground shows being staged throughout the week include Haai Live Shark Experience and Hard Wood Carvers. Strolling the fairgrounds will be Joy Unspeakable Productions Monday through Wednesday, and Dallas the Fire Guy Thursday through Sunday.

There's something for everyone to enjoy at the 2011 Ottawa County Fair. Last year Ross Weirich's goat, Bert, took a real liking to the youth's ribbon, earned for Outstanding Goat Exhibit for 12 year-olds. (Press hoto by Ken Grosjean)

As always, there will be presentation of Fair Royalty, parades, exhibitions, food, rides and more. New this year will be a Pinewood Derby set for July 23.
