In “Triumph Over Tragedy” and to remember those who lost their lives in the tornado that devastated the area last year, a block party being planned for June 4 at 4 p.m. on Main Street in Millbury. A committee consisting of members of the Lake Township police and fire departments, Millbury Mayor Mike Timmons and community members is in the process of planning the event, which will include an evening of fun, food and entertainment. The festivities will be held on Main Street just south of Ayers Road to Cherry Street. The street will be closed to through traffic, except for residents and emergency vehicles.
Organizers are still looking for sponsors, local bands that wish to perform, as well as food, arts and craft and other vendors. Food vendors will be asked to donate 15 percent of sales to benefit Lake Township police and fire. Other vendors will pay a $25 table set-up fee.

In addition to sales, goodwill donations will be accepted for the police and fire departments. “They had a lot of expenses that were not completely recouped by the state,” said committee member Ed Blank, whose Main Street home was destroyed by the tornado. “They were so helpful to all of us who live in the community. They put in a lot of hours,” he said. “When you come out of your basement after an event like this, and there are fire trucks and police already all over the scene – within minutes – you’re grateful for what they do.” A highlight of the evening will take place at 12:01 a.m., when local clergy will lead a moment of prayer to remember those who were lost in the tornado. We are entertaining suggestions in regards to other booths such as arts and crafts, non profit organizations representing Lake and Genoa High Schools, Interested vendors, performers and sponsors should contact Blank at 419-508-9693 or by e-mail at
