In this issue, Press reporters look back at the June 5, 2010 tornado that devastated parts of Lake Township and western Ottawa County. The storm killed seven, destroyed Lake High School and the Lake Township administration building, as well as a number of homes and other structures.

The past year has been marked by progress. The township building has been rebuilt and an open house/dedication ceremony is scheduled for June 5.

Lake school officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in March for a new 143,000-square-foot building that will feature a two-story glass atrium that will run the length of the building.

High school students for the second year are attending classes at a temporary site on Tracy Road being leased from Owens Community College but Lake administrators and school board members are confident the new building will be open for the 2012-13 school year.

The tragedy pulled the community together and many fundraisers were held, raising an estimated $289,826 for the victims.

The tornado still impacts the lives of those who were directly affected by it and Press reporters interviewed several of them.

You’ll find theses stories here on page one and on pages 4, 5, 6 and 11.
