Amendments to the Village of Woodville’s zoning ordinance covering junk vehicles and recreational equipment are the subject of a public hearing scheduled for April 26 at the town hall, 219 W. Main Street.

The village planning commission will accept public comment on the proposed amendments requiring disabled or unlicensed vehicles to be stored in an enclosed building and for off-street parking of recreational or utility equipment.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

The proposed amendments state:
• “Disabled Vehicles. The parking of a disabled or unlicensed vehicle within a residential district or commercial district for a period of more than two weeks shall be prohibited, except that such vehicle may be stored in an enclosed garage or other accessory building. Storage of a disabled or unlicensed vehicle, awaiting preparation for use or in process of repair at an automotive repair business or personal storage business is permitted if the vehicle is parked or stored in a fenced enclosure and maintained in a satisfactory condition as determined by the zoning inspector.”

• “If the recreational or utility equipment is stored outside of a building it shall be located in the driveway, side yard and meet all setback requirements for the district; also the minimum required parking spaces for automobiles must be maintained  during this storage time. In the months of June, July, and August recreational or utility equipment may be temporarily parked in the driveway outside of a building and out of the public right-of-way (without meeting district setback requirements) for no more than seven consecutive days. On one lot, there shall be no more than two pieces of recreational or utility equipment either stored or parked outside at any time.”

Bill Rowles, village zoning inspector, said he proposed the amendment for storing disabled/unlicensed vehicles and a resident has proposed the storage requirement for recreational and utility equipment, such as trailers.

“There are occasional concerns expressed by residents in both of these ordinance areas which result in a discussion by the planning commission for possible change this time,” he said.
