Rocky Ridge Village Council last week accepted the resignations of Brenda Goetz, clerk-treasurer, and her husband Norbert Goetz, zoning inspector.
Both resignations are effective Sept. 30.
No reasons were given in a letter the couple presented last week to council, according to a prepared statement by the village.
Councilmembers approved a recommendation by Solicitor Bruce Winters to pass an ordinance that changes the clerk-treasurer position from an elected position to that of fiscal officer, which will be filled by appointment.
Village officials said by having a fiscal officer position, the village can select someone from a larger pool of qualified candidates within and without the village limits.
A fiscal officer would be appointed by the mayor with the approval of council.
The duties are identical for either position - including payroll, banking and budgets, processing purchase orders, accounts payable and receivable. A fiscal officer would also have secretarial duties for the mayor and council.
Persons interested in the position may apply by sending a resume to P.O. Box 218, Rocky Ridge, O. 43458.
In related business, council approved the appointment of Police Chief Bud Chasteen as zoning inspector to replace Mr. Goetz, effect. Oct. 1.
Council also voted to hire Sarah Nation, Oak Harbor, to replace Mr. Winters as solicitor, effective Jan. 1, 2009.
Mr. Winters is running unopposed for Ottawa County Common Pleas Court Judge. That term begins February, 2009.
