Crystal Bowersox is not the only local young woman who needs your vote to make a dream come true.

Kelsey Perry, a 2006 graduate of Genoa High School, and her fiancé Justin Wehr are among 10 finalists for a dream wedding at St. Lucia Lighthouse in a contest being sponsored by Jasmine Bridal & Coconut Bay Resort & Spa.

Kelsey and Justin are the only couple from Ohio to make it into the top 10, beating out over 30,000 other couples nationwide. Winners receive a dream wedding and honeymoon. Jasmine Bridal will also dress the bride and her entire bridal party.

Perry, who learned about the contest while looking at wedding dresses online, submitted the following entry: “My fiancé and I are like a fairytale relationship, only without the happy ending. We have been dating now for about three years, but have been friends much longer. When we first met, I was dating a real jerk of a guy. He did everything that a man could possibly do to degrade a woman and I mean everything.

Justin was like my prince charming. He showed up and saved me from what I thought was a life of nothing but pain. During the first part of our relationship, Justin was deployed to Iraq through the United States Air Force. So from the very start, we have had to put a lot of hard work and dedication in keeping this relationship going.

We wrote each other every single day. From the moment he got home, we have been working hard to insure that we have a stable relationship. He just recently graduated with his bachelor’s in computer science and I am currently in the process of getting my bachelor of science in nursing.

We are both ready to take the next step in our relationship – we just need a little help with the wedding part.

I hope you will consider us for the chance to win our dream wedding. Like I said before, a love like ours doesn’t have a happy ending because with true love, there is no ending. There are only new beginnings.

And we would like to celebrate the beginning of our new lives together with your help.”

“She’s always wanted to get married on the beach,” said Lauri Perry, Kelsey’s mom. “I’m a single parent and I can’t afford a big wedding. This would mean everything to her.”

The winner will be chosen by popular vote. Voting is open through May 30 at www.coconutbayresortandspa.com/JasmineWedding/. Each voter can vote once per 24-hour period. The winner will be announced in June.

If they win, the couple will be married Sept. 4. If not, they’ll probably get married in December in Naples, Fla., where her grandparents have a winter home, Lauri said.

Kelsey currently works at Genoa Care Center and also attends Lourdes College working on a degree in nursing. Justin earned a degree in computer science engineering and is currently an intern at First Solar.

Kelsey Perry and Justin Wehr are among the 10 finalists in the St. Lucia Lighthouse Dream Wedding Giveaway, sponsored by Jasmine Bridal & Coconut Bay Resort & Spa.
