In Ottawa County - EMA to conduct haz-mat training exercise

The Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency will conduct a hazardous materials exercise June 29 at 6 p.m. at the Brush Wellman plant in Harris Township.

Personnel from Brush Wellman, the Harris-Elmore Fire and Emergency Medical Service, Rocky Ridge Fire Department, and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Red Cross, and other county agencies will participate.

A pubic meeting to critique the exercise will be held June 30 at the Ottawa County Emergency Operations Center at 9 a.m.

Woodmore ballots
Absentee ballots are available starting June 30 for the August special election in the Woodmore School District at the Ottawa County Board of Elections, 8444 W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor.

Woodmore voters in Ottawa County may vote an absentee ballot at the board of elections office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Aug. 3 and on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Ballots may also be mailed to voters. Applications may be printed from the board Web site, www.co.ottawa.oh.us. Voters may also call and request an application be sent by mail or send a letter that includes the required identification information.


Going on the ballot
A preliminary resolution to place a 5-mill operating levy on the November ballot for renewal has been approved by the Genoa school board.

Dennis Mock, school superintendent, said the levy was originally approved by voters in 1990.

The school board will meet June 29 at 4 p.m. for a work session. Final appropriations and a bid notice for the high school roof will be discussed
 

Budget hearing
A public hearing for the 2010 budget in Woodville Township will be held July 1 at 7 p.m. in the township fiscal office, 321 E. Main Street, at the fire station.


On drug policy board
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray has appointed Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn to serve as a member of the attorney general’s Drug Education Policy Advisory Board, formerly the Drug Abuse Resistance Education advisory board.


Contract extended
The Woodmore school board has approved a resolution to extend the bargaining agreement with the union representing Ohio Association of Public School Employees until Aug. 31.

The board also accepted resignations from Joe Wank, elementary school principal, and Merrily Robinson, high school math teacher.


Board to meet
The Lake school board June regular meeting will be held June 30 at 7 p.m. in the Middle School Media Center.
