The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments is hosting a reception for Ottawa County members June 30 at the Schedel Arboretum & Gardens in Elmore.

Larry Fletcher, executive director of the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau, will discuss efforts to promote Lake Erie tourism.

The reception will be from 5-7 p.m.

For reservation information contact Greg Gettum at (419) 241-9155 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Genoa Bank and Owens Community College are sponsoring the event.

Deputy chief named
The Lake Township trustees have approved the promotion of Mike Hornyak to the position of deputy chief of the township’s volunteer fire department.

He fills a vacancy created when Todd Walters was promoted to chief after the resignation of former chief Eric Larson.

Hornyak, who was an assistant district chief and has been with the department for 20 years, will be paid $900 a month and receive a cell phone allowance for the part-time position.

Vehicles to be confiscated
Township police chief Mark Hummer has informed the trustees the police department will begin forfeiture proceedings against the owners of two vehicles that were involved in recent separate drug busts.

The vehicles are a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a Ford Explorer, the chief said.

Contract OK'd
The Ottawa County commissioners have approved a contract with DL Smith Concrete & Design for $13,829 for a curb ramp replacement project in Genoa. The project is being undertaken through the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Community Development Block Grant funds have been secured to pay for the work, said Steve Arndt, president of the board of commissioners.

The commissioners also authorized the county auditor to advance $75,000 of future bed tax collections to the Ottawa County Visitor’s Bureau to help the bureau with its marketing efforts.

Arndt said the bureau typically doesn’t receive the bulk of its share of the bed tax until August but likes to implement its marketing plan earlier in the year.

The advance will be paid back to the county general fund, he said.

Special meeting
The Woodmore school board will meet June 22 at 7:15 a.m. in a special meeting to accept resignations.

The board will meet in the elementary school library.
