Mobile service can take the grrrr out of dog grooming

Given the opportunity, who wouldn’t appreciate some “spa time” – a pampering shampoo and haircut, a relaxing facial and getting their nails done?

Our four-legged friends can benefit from some pampering too, but getting the family pooch to the groomer can be time-consuming and troublesome, especially for canines that get anxious or sick on car trips.

Local groomer Amanda Linton can take the grrrr out of grooming with her Doggie Styles Mobile Grooming service.

Linton, who was a veterinary technician for seven years, has been grooming animals for more than 15 years, including time as co-owner of Viva La Pet Spa in Northwood. At the urging of her clients who live throughout the area, she decided to take her services on the road and go mobile.

All services are performed in a climate-controlled custom-designed trailer, which is equipped with a fresh warm water supply and assorted grooming tools and products. The mobile unit contains storage tanks for used bath water and an internal vacuum to collect all clipped fur, so no debris or waste are left behind in the driveway.

On average, appointments last between one and two hours, although dogs that have a long, matted or dense coat may require longer appointments, Linton said.

In addition to standard grooming services, every canine client receives a complimentary blueberry facial with a mild cleanser; a moisturizing bubble bath paw treatment that revitalizes and helps to heal paws damaged from gravel, asphalt, snow, salt-treated roads and hot pavement; and a tooth-brushing.

Among the services available for an extra charge are a de-shedding treatment involving special shampoos, conditioners and tools to contain shedding; nail filing and nail polishing.

Dog owners can also opt for nail caps for their pooch to help prevent destructive scratching. Caps last four to six weeks and won’t interfere with the pet’s normal behavior, Linton said.

The cost for standard grooming generally ranges from $40 to $60, depending on the size and type of dog. Discounts are available for pet owners with multiple pets being groomed at the same appointment and for neighbors scheduling services at the same time. Gift certificates are available.

“While mobile grooming is not for everyone, many people find the convenience and personal attention that they receive well worth the added cost,” Linton said. “You are paying for the groom shop to come to you and your pet.”

Doggie Styles Mobile Grooming’s service area includes most of Northwest Ohio, including Fremont, Oregon, Clyde, Gibsonburg, Helena, Perrysburg, Genoa, Woodville and Elmore.
