A fund-raising drive for a memorial at the Allen Township starts this week, organizers said.

The memorial for township fire fighters and military veterans will be built in an addition to the township cemetery.

Details of the fund-raising effort will be announced May 25 during a Memorial Day service that starts at 11 a.m., said Dan Helle, one of the organizers.

Brick pavers, granite benches, and a flag pole are being sold to fund the cost.

The memorial will be located next to a pond in a 5.5-acre area designated for expanding the township cemetery.

Bricks bearing the names of service members and fire fighters will be placed around the base of the memorial and “non-service” bricks will line a walk-way to the memorial.
