The Ottawa County Board of Elections will meet May 22 at 10 a.m. to conduct the official canvass of the May 5 special election. A regular board meeting will follow at 1:30 p.m.
Voters in the Genoa Area Local School District approved the renewal of a 1.8-mill, 5-year permanent improvement levy in the May 5 election: for – 437, against – 272, according to unofficial results of the board of elections.
Voters in the Port Clinton City School District also renewed a 2.3-mill levy for current expenses while Put-in-Bay voters approved an additional levy for fire protection. Put-in-Bay Township voters rejected a request for an additional mill for the township port authority. An additional 0.4-mill for the Put-in-Bay DeRivera Park Trust was narrowly supported by voters.
That’s one of the ideas being considered to recognize members of the armed services, the mayor said, adding another is to assist them with the installation of a flagpole upon their return.
The mayor met recently with Jonathon Hummel, who’s served with the Army in Iraq and presented him with a plaque.
Military Family Month bill
The bill, which received a 97-0 vote, was sponsored by Representative Peter Ujvagi (D-Toledo), who said it is meant to express gratitude to the family members of service men and women.
House Bill 150 will go to the Senate for consideration.
New and updated features include text message updates from his office, video and audio library, links to Congressman Latta’s social media Websites, and requests for U.S. flags flown over the Capitol.
