Bond has been set at $100,000 for a Lake Township man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend.

Township police said Jeffery Acers, 46, of 3630 Eastpointe Dr., was being held in the Wood County jail after being charged with attempted murder.

According to police, Cheryl Zimmerman, 49, of the same address at the Eastpointe on The Mall subdivision, placed a 9-1-1 call about 6:33 a.m. on Dec. 15. She was transported to the St. Vincent Medical Center, suffering from four stab wounds.

Mr. Acers wasn’t at the scene when police and EMS crews arrived and Ms. Zimmerman didn’t initially identify him as the attacker.

He later returned to the apartment complex.

“He came back to the scene while we were there and we kind of pieced it together,” said Detective Mick Lento.

He said Ms. Zimmerman also later made a statement at the hospital accusing Mr. Acers.
