Those interested in adopting cats, kittens, dogs and puppies can do so at the reduced rate of $5 on Fridays and $10 on Tuesdays in September and October at the Toledo Area Humane Society.

The non-profit shelter has promoted the reduced rates at different periods this summer with great success.

The shelter is still reporting over 100 cats and kittens being brought in each week.

“As the area’s only open-admission facility, it is incredibly important to TAHS to save as many lives as possible and to find homes for as many animals as possible,” according to TAHS Executive Director John Dinon.

The reduced rates include spaying/neutering, a vet exam, all age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipping.

These reduced-rate adoption specials have helped propel the TAHS in their efforts for the ASPCA $100K Rachel Ray Challenge. The momentum that began building in May with “$5 Fridays” continued through the start of the Challenge and boosted TAHS off to a great start in the Challenge that began in August– so much so, that after just one month, TAHS found homes for over 400 dogs, cat, kittens and puppies, ranking 1st in their division and tied for 5th overall in the country. As a result, the ASPCA has awarded TAHS a $5,000 “Fast Start” grant, which will directly benefit the mission of the Humane Society and help them continue to help even more animals.

The Humane Society’s overall goal for the ASPCA $100K Challenge is to do 878 dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions – 300 more adoptions than during the same time period last year.  As of today, TAHS is already more than halfway to that goal with over 550 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies finding their new homes since August 1! “We are off to a great start. But just because we’re off to such a great start doesn’t mean we can slow down.  We want to keep this momentum through the end of the Challenge and save as many lives as possible”, said Dinon.

The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm. Donations from local individuals, corporations and monies generated by fundraisers and earned revenue are a major source of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
