Luckey festival heralds the arrival of autumn

The 31st Annual Luckey Fall Festival will be held Sept. 27, 28 and 29 in Basic Park, located between Krotzer Avenue (SR 582) and Gilbert Road on Adams Street in the village of Luckey.

The old-fashioned festival, which has become synonymous with autumn in these parts, mourned the passing of its longtime president, Larry Swartz, who succumbed to cancer Feb. 21. Fellow organizers remembered Swartz as a workhorse and the festival’s heart and soul, who was adamant that the festival continue.

Mud Hens continue to set attendance, party records

The Toledo Mud Hens are crediting fans and supporters for making the 2013 baseball season a success on many fronts, even though the team did not fare so well in International League standings.

This season, Fifth Third Field welcomed 560,080 people to the ballpark, a number the franchise hasn’t seen since 2008, and it has attracted a total of 5,576,977 people in the 12 seasons the Mud Hens have played in downtown Toledo.

Cedar Point takes top world honors…again

The results are in and for the 16th consecutive year, Cedar Point amusement park/resort has been voted the “Best Amusement Park in the World at the recent Golden Ticket Awards ceremony in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Hosted by Amusement Today, the annual Golden Ticket Awards are the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars, where amusement park owners and managers, ride manufacturers and industry officials gather to salute the industry’s best. Winners were selected by votes from amusement park enthusiasts from around the world.
