Ottawa County shows its support for crime victims

April 26 marks the beginning of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a time to focus on victims of crime and celebrate our nation’s progress in serving them.

This year’s theme, “25 Years of Rebuilding Lives: Celebrating the Victims of Crime Act,” honors a landmark of national commitment to victims of crime.

Soon the gardening season for Northwest Ohio will be in full “fling!”

By mid-May, the soil and the weather will be at the right temperatures for sowing seeds and planting transplants. Gardening in May is very different than gardening in June, July and August when drier weather, insects and plant diseases tend to hit. However, as the growing season comes and goes, keeping up with the specific needs of your garden each month will ensure the successful bounty of the buds, blooms, fruits, and produce that you are hoping for.

Human intervention may result in orphaned babies

Baby season is here in the wildlife world, which means people may come face-to-face unexpectedly with newborn squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and skunks when doing spring clean-up.

The Humane Society of the United States receives an increase in calls this time of year from panicked homeowners who have stumbled across wildlife babies in their yards, attics, sheds, garages and yards.
