Jerusalem Township Park Fest set for Aug. 19 and 20

        Jerusalem Township Park Fest 2022 will be held Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday Aug. 20 at various venues throughout the area.
        Festivities kick off Friday evening at 6 p.m. with Bruce Brodie Live at Bono Tavern. JT Hayden Band will perform from 7-11 p.m. at Curtice Hy Flash, and Abby Ray & Corey Hillman will play from 8 p.m.-midnight at The Bilge.
        Saturday’s schedule of events includes:
        • Bicycling Maumee Bay State Park, 9 a.m. Sponsored by Toledo Area Bicycle Org. and Flatlanders Bicycle Club.  • Kids and Family Events, 12-5 p.m., Jerusalem Elementary Rec Field. Free lunch will include hot dog, chips, a soft drink and a cookie. Activities include a splash pool, sprinkler water fun, tractor hayrides, antique tractors and ag equipment show, corn hole, wiffle ball, games and more.
        • Paprikash Dinner, 12 p.m., Bono Tavern.
        • Golf Cart Regatta Parade, 12 p.m., Anchor Point/Meinke Marina.
        • Kayak Howard Marsh Metropark, 12-5 p.m. Free kayak use at Maumee Bay Kayak Livery.

Barrio Latino Art Festival
        The Barrio Latino Art Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 from 2-11 p.m., 1141 Broadway St., Toledo.
        The festival, presented by Nuestra Gente Community Projects, Inc., celebrates diversity, innovation and achievement through live music, dancing, food, artwork on display, recognition award to an artist, crafts, Grito contest, jalapeño contest, art kid’s activities, and many other special performances and forms of entertainment. Science After Dark
at Imagination Station

        Bring your best detective skills and a few friends to Imagination Station’s next Science After Dark: Whodunit? Mystery Theater, presented by Comfort Line FiberFrame Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
        Attendees can immerse themselves in an evening of intrigue, excitement and fun as they work with others to help solve a murder. What’s the motive? Who’s the killer? Bribe suspects for clues and use forensics, ballistics and other scientific principles to gather evidence but watch your back – you never know who might be next.
        Tickets are on sale now and include the full murder mystery experience facilitated by the Murder Mystery Company, full access to the science center and a boxed charcuterie tray. There will also be a cash bar and snacks available for purchase.
        Science After Dark: Whodunit? Mystery Theater is a fundraiser for Imagination Station, with money raised going to help the center’s ongoing mission to provide interactive and engaging educational programming to families in our community.

Bingo Night fundraiser
to benefit Bay Park

        The ProMedica Bay Park Auxiliary’s annual Bingo Night fundraiser and membership drive will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 5-8 p.m. at the Oregon Senior Center, 4350 Navarre Ave.
        Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The cost for the event is $25, which includes appetizers, dinner and 12 games of bingo. Raffles will be held for assorted baskets throughout the night. In addition, the winner of the Travel Voucher Raffle will be drawn.
        Tickets for the $3,000 travel voucher are $20 each with only 300 tickets being sold. Tickets are available at the ProMedica Bay Park Hospital Gift Shop during normal shop hours. The voucher, in conjunction with Starr Wlodarski from Perrysburg Cruise Planners, can be utilized for any means of travel anywhere in the world. Those participating in the travel voucher raffle do not need to be present to win.
        Proceeds from the fundraisers will be used to support projects at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital.

 Rotary Club to present
“The Launch” fundraiser

        The Oregon/Northwood Rotary Club will present “The Launch,” – a family-friendly event to raise funds for Oregon and Northwood students to attend Challenger Learning Center of Lake Erie West, along with other local service projects, on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Brentwood Park, 2100 Tracy Rd., Northwood.
        Highlights of the event include:
        • 6:30 a.m. – Coffee and a food truck.
        • 7:15 a.m. – Greet the Morning Service.
        • 8 a.m. – 5K Space Race & Walk.
        • 9 a.m. – Pet Parade, open to all animals who know how to behave in public. Judges will be looking for best animal costumes.
        • Golf Ball Drop.
        • 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Car Show with music by Cruisin’ Zeake.

Humane Society seeking
donations for fundraiser

        The Humane Society of Ottawa County is seeking donations of homemade crafts for an upcoming fundraiser. Fall seasonal items and pet-related items would be appreciated.
        Donated items may be dropped off through Sept. 21 at the shelter, 2424 E. Sand Rd., Port Clinton, during the office hours, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from noon-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
 
Rally BG on Main
        The City of Bowling Green and Bowling Green State University invite area residents of all ages to gather, explore downtown BG, welcome the return of BGSU students, eat and be entertained at the 2nd Annual Rally BG on Main.
        The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 27, from noon-9 p.m. in historic downtown Bowling Green.
        Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the event, allowing for a day packed full of fun activities in the heart of Bowling Green.
        Thrill seekers will have an opportunity to zip line down Main or compete in the Ninja Warrior Course. The City of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department will host a 3-on-3 tournament on Main Street. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet Freddie and Frieda Falcon, make a street sign, and support local shops and restaurants.
        Want to stay outside? Grab a bite to eat at one of the food trucks or order a DORA drink to go.
        Throughout the day, a DJ will be playing music, the Bowling Green High School and BGSU marching bands will perform, and cheer and dance groups will be performing.
        Families will not want to miss a chance to get up close to a fire truck and police car, participate in sporting activities with BGSU Athletics, or have some fun with the Wood County Library.
        With the exception of food and drink, the event is free of charge.

Zoo Twilight Thursdays
        The Toledo Zoo is offering extended hours Thursdays through Aug. 25 for families to enjoy cooler evenings and fun activities.
        “We are excited to provide our guests an opportunity to enjoy a unique evening experience with live music, animals demos, and a variety of dining opportunities,” said Shayla Moriarty, zoo chief of staff and senior vice president. “But most importantly, these evenings offer a rare chance to enjoy the zoo in the beautiful twilight hours of summer as the sun sets and the temperatures cool.”
        On Twilight Thursdays, the gates will be open until 8 p.m. the zoo will close at 9 p.m. A number of exhibits, activities and retail shops will be open, and additional animal experiences will take place at 6, 6:45 and 7:15 p.m.
        Food and beverages will be available at the Beastro, Monarch Market, Northern Ice and the Bakery. The Beastro will offer a special Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m. and will include $1 off draft beers and other specials.
        In addition, there will be live entertainment in the Main Plaza during Twilight Thursdays.
        General admission is half price after 4 p.m. and Toledo Zoo members can visit Twilight Thursdays for free.

Concert series planned
        Black Swamp Conservancy will hosting a new outdoor concert series at its Dr. Robert L. Nehls Memorial Nature Preserve, located at 4400 East Muggy Rd., Port Clinton, on Catawba Island.
        The Sunday concerts begin at 2:30 p.m. and feature highly acclaimed regional musicians, including Andrew Brown’s Djangophonique (Aug. 28); The Frenchtown Playboys (Sept. 11) and Warren & Flick (Oct. 2).
        Tickets are $20 per concert or $50 for all three. Children 10 years old and under are free with an adult ticket purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket/chair and cooler to enjoy the live music and Lake Erie’s scenic West Harbor.
