Lutheran Home at Toledo, a ministry of Lutheran Homes Society (LHS), will hold a Community Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 for The Labuhn Center, a new short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility located on the Toledo campus, 131 N. Wheeling Street, Toledo.

The $4 million expansion adds 27 private rooms with attached baths, along with a state-of-the-art therapy gym, a transitional room to help prepare patients for their return home, a dining room with a café open throughout the day, and flat-screen televisions, telephones and Wi-Fi access in every room.

The center is expected to start accepting patients the first week in September.

LHS was founded Aug. 6, 1860, in the days leading up to the Civil War. The Society’s ministry began as a home for orphans, but expanded to include care of the elderly when the Toledo campus opened in 1906. Today, more than 2,300 youth and elderly throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are benefitting from the Society’s residential and community services.
