Thousands of gardeners are expected at the 8th Annual Seed Swap, a gardeners pep rally to kick off the growing season Feb. 25 at the Erie Street Market, 237 S. Erie St., Toledo.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn new skills and diversify their gardens by mingling with other gardeners and swapping favorite seeds and bulbs.
The Seed Swap offers gardeners of all abilities exposure to new plants and helps preserve unique local and cultural strains, as many gardeners grow plants that are unique to their ethnicity or taste. There will also be activities for kids, workshops, music and more.
Workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The seed swap will be conducted from noon to 3 p.m. Bringing seeds to exchange is encouraged but not required.
2012 All Species Ball
Later in the evening, from 7 to 11 p.m., the “All Species Ball” will be held at the Erie Street Market (enter from the Farmer’s Market side).
The ball will include music with disc jockeys Jason Flynn as Nematoad, DJ Quake and APB, along with grazing and a cash bar. Explore your “wild side” by coming dressed as your favorite non-human species.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 per person or $25 per couple at the door. Proceeds raised will help support a program that offers Toledo youth the opportunity to raise small livestock with Toledo GROWs.
