Toledo Museum of Art historic date Jan. 17
When the Toledo Museum of Art was established in 1901, it consisted of two rented rooms in the Gardner Building in the city’s downtown.
The museum’s iconic Greek-columned building at 2445 Monroe St. opened to the public for the first time more than a decade later—on Jan. 17, 1912.
In celebration of this historic event, area residents are invited to attend a ceremony Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. A cake replica of the building will be on display and free refreshments will be served in Libbey Court. Parking also will be free.
In addition, the 100th visitor to the museum that day will receive a prize package that includes a $100 Toledo Museum of Art gift card, a one-year family membership valued at $75, two tickets to the Toledo Symphony performance of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” in the Peristyle on Feb. 3 or Feb. 4, and four tickets to an Art Hour session of the recipient’s choice.
Everyone is urged to share memories of visits to the museum, either by jotting down memories on forms available in the Herrick Lobby, or on the museum’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
Admission to the Toledo Museum of Art is free. Visit www.toledomuseum.org for more information.
Make-A-Wish Benefit Since November, students enrolled in Marketing Education programs at Penta Career Center and Perrysburg High School have been busy organizing two fund raising events to help fellow classmate Zac Zies realize his dream trip to Australia through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The students hope to raise $7,000 so Zies’ wish can be granted. Zies, a Perrysburg High School junior and student in Penta’s Geographic Information Systems program, suffers from Friedreich’s ataxia, a rare genetic disease that affects the muscles and heart. He is an approved Wish Child through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Penta students, members of a student leadership organization called DECA, have raised over $4,000 since November for the project. In the first phase, DECA chapters at Penta and Perrysburg High School sold Make-A-Wish stars during lunch periods to raise money for the project. The students also worked with Penta’s Digital Video Production program to create and produce a video to help raise awareness of Zac’s disease and help with the fundraising activities. The video has been aired on Penta’s daily video announcements.
Phase two of the fundraising effort is a Lasagna Dinner and Silent Auction that will be held Jan. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Penta, 9301 Buck Rd., Perrysburg. The dinner includes lasagna prepared by Penta culinary arts students, salad and garlic bread. The cost is $8 per person. Tickets must be reserved before to the dinner by contacting Lisa Bell, Marketing Education instructor, at
